Updated September 07, 2021: We have updated the message to provide additional clarity. Thank you for your feedback.

At Build 2021 we announced the ability for Teams users to purchase third-party app subscriptions directly from the Teams app store. From within the store, users can view subscription plans offered and go through the checkout process to pay with a credit card.

Note: if a tenant admin has disabled their users ability to discover and install third-party applications (all or partial) then those same limitations apply to their users ability to discover and buy the third-party subscriptions.

Key Points:

  • Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 83502
  • Timing: We expect this feature to begin rolling out in early October and for rollout to be complete by late October.
  • Roll-out: tenant level
  • Action: review and assess

How this will affect your organization:

Users today who can find and install third-party apps from the Teams app store will be able to purchase subscriptions when this feature is released for applications that offer subscription plans. For those ISVs with whom you may have negotiated a discounted rate, private plans will be offered during the purchase flow for your users.

Purchase app subscriptions via the Teams app storeWhat you need to do to prepare:

Consider updating your end-user documentation and alert your help desk of this upcoming feature.
