New Device Parsing Logic in Microsoft Teams Call Quality Dashboard
MC273629 · COMPUTERS N’ STUFF
The Microsoft Teams Call Quality Dashboard (CQD) product group is introducing new logic to our device parsing in Call Quality Dashboard (CDQ). This change will improve the accuracy with which we identify capture and render devices that Microsoft Teams users rely on every day, enabling administrators to get a better view of their device quality landscape through Call Quality Dashboard.

Key points

  • Timing: On August 31st, 2021, Call Quality Dashboard (CDQ) will begin using new device parsing logic that will change the current output of certain dimensions in call quality reports.
  • Roll-out: tenant level
  • Control type: admin control
  • Action: review, assess and remove filtering conditions that are not part of the new dimensions

How this will affect your organization:

You are receiving this message because this change will impact all tenants, using Call Quality Dashboard (CDQ), who are filtering on any of the below dimensions and values.

The dimensions that will have their output modified are:

  • Mic Connection Type
  • Speaker Connection Type

New possible values:

  • USB, Wireless, Other, blank

Previous possible values:

  • USB, Other, Internal, BlueTooth, PCI, Virtual, HDAudio, blank

The reason for this modification is to eliminate some obsolete and inaccurate values in this field. Bluetooth devices will now be captured under Wireless, and built-in devices will be captured under Other.

If you currently have custom reports created in Call Quality Dashboard (CDQ) that filter upon either of the two above mentioned dimensions, you will notice that the report output will change. If you are specifically filtering on any previously possible value that is not included in the new set of possible values, your report will fail to render the expected results.

Examples:

  • If you filtered on USB and BlueTooth values in Mic Connection Type dimension; after the change, your report would only show rows with the USB value, as the BlueTooth value is no longer present. This would result in fewer results than anticipated until the report is adjusted from filtering on USB and BlueTooth to filtering on USB and Wireless.
  • If you filtered only on a single value that has changed such that no data is found, the report will display “This query doesn’t return any data. Please check the query filters.”

What you need to do to prepare:

You will want to review your Call Quality Dashboard (CDQ) custom reports where you may be filtering on any of the above mentioned dimensions and values, and remove the filtering condition that is set to values that are no longer used in the new dimensions.

Note: Filtering on dimension Second Mic Connection Type > value HDAudio will fail to produce the expected results, however filtering on value >USB will continue to work as it was not updated.

Sender-recipient pair receiving limits in Microsoft Office 365
MC272450 · COMPUTERS N’ STUFF
We are updating our receiving limits in Exchange to help prevent attacks on your mail flow experience. Earlier this year in (February MC239262) we announced a stricter enforcement of our mailbox receiving limits. Taking your feedback into consideration, we are releasing an additional limit to block single-sender mail storms and deter DoS attacks.

Our mailbox receiving limits, as previously stated, apply to the messages received by a Microsoft Office 365 mailbox. If volume exceeds 3,600 messages in a given 60-minute window, the mailbox will no longer accept messages from the Internet, from other tenants, or from on-premises senders.

Starting in September 2021, we are adding a limit on sender-recipient pairs (SRP). This feature will apply to the messages received by a Microsoft Office 365 mailbox from each specific sender. If a single sender sends over 33% of the threshold (3,600 per rolling hour) to a specific recipient, the SRP limit will kick in, and the mailbox will no longer accept messages from that sender. The mailbox will continue accepting messages from other senders.

Note: If the identified sender is from a Microsoft Office 365 mailbox in the same tenant, messages will be allowed even after the limit is exceeded. If the identified sender is from an on-premises mailbox, a Microsoft Office 365 in a separate tenant, or outside of Microsoft Office 365, messages will be blocked.

This change helps prevent a malicious user from blocking mail flow to a Microsoft Office 365 mailbox, as part of our continuing efforts to improve your Exchange Online experience.

Key Points:

  • Timing: September 2021
  • Action: review and assess

How this will affect your organization:

Rollout of the mailbox receiving limit as detailed in (February MC239262) is ongoing. We are continuing to lower the threshold over the next few months until we reach 3,600.

Rollout of the SRP limit will begin in September 2021. This limit is set to 33% of the mailbox receiving limit.

Note: Most users are not likely to be impacted by this, as only a small percentage of mailboxes are currently hitting SRP limits.

If a mailbox exceeds the SRP limit, messages to that mailbox from the identified sender will be throttled. Affected mailboxes will receive an email informing them of the throttling, while the identified sender will receive a non-delivery report under response code 5.2.121. Emails from that sender will be throttled until the limit resets one hour from when the threshold was exceeded.

Administrators will be able to view users that exceed their SRP limit through the “Mailbox exceeding receiving limits” report in the Exchange Admin Center. Please contact affected users to understand why they are receiving so many messages from particular senders.

What you need to do to prepare:

No direct action is required on your part, though it is recommended that you review the new limits and update training and documentation as appropriate.

Releasing Fluid live components in Teams chat
MC270177 · COMPUTERS N’ STUFF
Co-authoring content in Teams just got easier. Now you can send a chat message containing a live component that can be edited inline—in real time—by everyone in the chat.

Key points

  • Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 82779
  • Timing:
    • Standard: we will begin rolling this out in mid-August and expect to complete rollout late August.
    • GCC: we will begin rolling this out in early September and expect to complete rollout late September.
  • Roll-out: tenant level
  • Control type: user control
  • Action: review and assess

How this will affect your organization:

Fluid components in Teams chat allow end users to send a message with a table, action items, or a list that can be co-authored and edited by everyone in line and in the future will be shareable across Office applications like Outlook. Users will be able to quickly align across teams, and get work done efficiently by copy and pasting components across Teams chats.

With Fluid components users can ideate, create, and decide together, while holding fewer meetings and minimizing the need for long chat threads.

Live components in Teams chat

Steps on Desktop:

  1. Go to the box where you type a chat message and click on Insert live components right beneath the box.
  2. Select the type of component you want to insert into your message. (Make sure the box is empty—with no other text in it—when you do this.)
  3. Enter content into the component. Change permissions if needed.
  4. When ready, send your message.

Steps on Mobile:

  1. Tap Compose options in the + menu , then tap Components , and select the type of component you want.
  2. Enter content, and when ready, tap Send.

To co-edit a live component with other chat members:

  1. Simply click inside the component and start typing.
  2. See others editing with you in real time.

What you need to do to prepare:

You might want to notify your users about this new capability and update your training and documentation as appropriate.

Microsoft 365 profile update: Add topics to user profiles
MC267952 · COMPUTERS N’ STUFF
We’re adding new features to the profile card in Microsoft 365 and beginning in early August. Users in your organization will be able to add topics directly to their profile card in Microsoft 365 apps and services or through Office Delve.

  • Topics are terms that individuals can add to their profile through their profile card or Office Delve.
  • Users can add topics to their profile to make it easier for people to learn more about them.
  • Topics can be skills, projects, and even hobbies.
  • When others search for a term that matches a topic on their profile, their name and profile picture may show up in search results across Microsoft apps.

Key points

  • Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 82081
  • Timing: We will begin rolling this feature out in early August and expect to complete rollout in mid-October 2021.
  • Roll-out: tenant level
  • Control type: user control / admin control
  • Action: review and assess

How this will affect your organization:

Users in your organization will be able to add topics to their profiles by either updating their information in the profile card in Microsoft 365 apps and services or Office Delve.

  • Topics added will be available to view for users under “Ask me about” in the Microsoft 365 profile card and under “Skills and expertise” in Office Delve.

Note: If you have a closed term set up for “Responsibilities”, please see below.

What you need to do to prepare:

Microsoft
Teams Call Quality Dashboard – Dimension Name Change
MC267951 · COMPUTERS N’ STUFF
We’re making a change to Microsoft Teams Call Quality Dashboard (CQD).

On August 9, 2021, we’re renaming the Meeting Scenario dimension to Scheduling Source App. This is to better improve the user experience when creating custom queries by ensuring dimension names are easier to understand and will accommodate third-party applications in Microsoft Teams.

Key points

  • Timing: Update will happen on August 9, 2021
  • Roll-out: tenant level
  • Control type: admin control
  • Action: review, assess and use the Scheduling Source App dimension on or after August 9, 2021

How this will affect your organization:

You are receiving this message because this change will impact all tenants using Call Quality Dashboard where the Meeting Scenario field is available.

Administrators will need to use theScheduling Source App dimension instead of Meeting Scenario when this change is implemented. Any Custom Call Quality Dashboard reports or CQD Power BI reports that you may have created that use this dimension will need to be updated with the new dimension name on or after August 9, 2021. If this is not done, custom reports using the field will not deliver the expected results until the dimension or filter using it is changed to the new name.

What you need to do to prepare:

Review and assess your custom CQD Power BI reports and when this change takes effect on August 9, 2021, you will need to update/change any custom Call Quality Dashboard or CQD Power BI reports you may have created that use the Meeting Scenario dimension with the new dimension name, Scheduling Source App.

If you have not created any custom reports using the Meeting Scenario dimension, no action is required.

New outbound relay pool
MC266466 · COMPUTERS N’ STUFF
We’re making some changes to harden the configuration for relaying or forwarding email through Office 365.

Starting July 27, 2021, we are updating special relay pools, a separate IP address pool that is used for relayed or forwarded mails that are sent from domains that are not a part of accepted domains in your tenant. Only messages that are sent from domains that are not accepted domains in your tenant are impacted by this change.

How this will affect your organization:

When this change is implemented, messages that do not meet the below criteria will route through the Relay Pool and the messages might potentially end up in recipient junk folder.

  1. Outbound sender domain is an accepted domain of the tenant.
  2. SPF passes when the message comes to M365.
  3. DKIM on the sender domain passes when the message comes to M365.

All messages that meet the above criteria will not be relayed through the Relay Pool. For relayed messages, we will skip SRS rewrite.

What you can do to prepare:

When this change takes effect, you can tell a message was sent via the Relay Pool by looking at the outbound server IP (all Relay Pool IPs will be in the 40.95.0.0/16 range), or by looking at the outbound server name (will have “rly” in the name).

For the messages to go through the regular pool you will need to make sure when a message arrives to Microsoft Office 365, SPF or DKIM passes, or sender domain of the outbound message matches an accepted domain of your tenant

For DKIM to work, make sure you enable DKIM for sending domain for example fabrikam.com is part of contoso.com accepted domains, if the sending address is [email protected], the DKIM needs to be enabled for fabrikam.com. you can read on how to enable DKIM here.

To add custom domains follow the steps outlined here.
